February Featured Athlete - Robert Case

1. Where are you from?

Right here in the Finger Lakes (Union Springs)

2. What do you do for a living?

I'm a Senior Relationship Manager and work with ultra-high net worth families to develop and implement estate, tax and financial planning strategies.

3. What motivated you to start CF?

Traditional gym memberships don't work for me; I need to know I'm being held accountable by someone to show up - - so I gave CF a try. Turned out to be one of the most impactful decisions I've ever made.

4. How has CF impacted your life?

It really helped me uncover and develop a mental toughness I didn't have before. I honestly believe CF changed the trajectory of my life and I'm so thankful for the community.

5. What’s your favorite movement?

Hang power cleans. Or rope climbs...I miss doing those so much!!

6. What’s your least favorite movement?

THRUSTERS. No thank you.

7. If you could write a workout, what would it look like?

I love the slow burn WODs. Something like: 30 min AMRAP of 400M run / 12 KBS / 30 abmat situps / 14 DB snatches

8. What do you do for self care?

I jump in the hot tub a few times a week, Theragun daily, daily mobility (GOWOD app has been great for this) - but really my self-care is just going to the gym.

9. What’s a CF goal you’ve set and accomplished?

I'm most proud of getting 100 unbroken dubs. In hindsight, I guess I'm more proud of the process than hitting the goal. I didn't know if I'd get 100, but I carved out 5-10 minutes every day for months and just practiced. Little by little, my sets got bigger - and then one day in open gym - it happened. It was a cool moment for me to realize that if I commit to a goal and just consistently show up, I've got a shot.

10. What’s your next big goal?

Finding my new "why" is my next goal. I've lost my drive a little bit since COVID. My nutrition has slipped a little, my desire to really find the uncomfortable intensity in a workout has slipped - - but it's slowly starting to come back. I'm just trying to be patient with myself - but most importantly - making sure that I'm having fun in the gym above all else!

11. Where are you looking forward to traveling to once everything clears up?

Resuming our annual trip to see family in Connecticut. It's such a great escape and definitely miss it.

12. Do you have a favorite book or author?

I'm not a avid reader, but the last book I read was Chasing Excellence by Ben Bergeron, and I loved it.

13. If you were stranded on a deserted island with only 1 piece of equipment, what would it be?

A 50# dumbbell

14. Do you have a favorite meal?

Marinated chicken on the grill with broccoli and sweet potatoe fries. Also, pizza. All the pizza.

15. Where’s your go to restaurant (and what do you get) when you want to grab a bite out?

Well, we haven't gone out to a restaurant since COVID, but we do love our takeout from Crossroads in Lansing. Give me alllllll the honey BBQ wings.

16. What would you say to someone hesitant about starting CF?

I started CF in January 2017 at 230 lbs. I had just quit smoking, was overweight and definitely out of shape. But I had finally had enough of my own sh**, so as terrified as I was to try CF, I walked through the door. So, I just try to tell that story - and offer to be at their first class so they know someone.
