May Featured Athlete - Sean Flynn

1. Where are you from?

I’m from South Dakota. My small town’s claim to fame is the World’s Only Corn Palace.

2. What brought you to Ithaca?

I came to Ithaca for a job, I teach in the college of business at Cornell.

3. Can you tell us about your CF experience?  (When you started CF, where you've done CF, etc.)  

I have been doing Crossfit about ten years. I started it during grad school and was hooked after that! Since then, I have been a member of gyms in five different states. 

4. What's your athletic background? 

I didn’t do a lot of organized sports in high school or college, but I always have enjoyed sports and love doing anything athletic.

5. What made you start CrossFit? 

I wanted a change from the standard commercial gyms. And also didn’t like having to come up with my own programming.

6. What restaurant in the Ithaca area is your favorite and what do you get?

I love the pizzas from Salt Point Brewing.

7. What do you do for self care?

I like to hang out with my wife and dog, and my guilty television pleasure is Vanderpump Rules. 

8. What's your favorite dish to cook at home?

Anything that I can grill! 

9. Beer/wine/liquor/all/none?

Pretty much only beer.

10. What's your favorite season and why?

Summer for sure, because I love hot weather. 

11. What's your favorite movie or TV show?

Snatch is the best movie ever made!

12. What's a CF goal you've crossed off the list?

Handstand walking. 

13. What's a CF goal you're still working towards?

To be able to strict press as much as my wife. And also figuring out how to use the Truform runner! 

14. Do you have a favorite CF movement? Least favorite? 

Favorite: handstand push-ups. Least favorite: anything involving a jump rope.

15. If you could write a workout, what would it look like? 

A couplet of heavy deadlifts and 400m sprints. 

16. If someone was hesitant to start CF, what would you tell them? 

The first class is free, so what do you have to lose!
